Fernando is a retired math teacher of 29 years and a native Texan. Born in Marfa,Tx. and growing up in Pecos,Tx. Fernando first graduated from Pecos High School and then UT El Paso. He has taught various math classes including calculus, geometry, trigonometry, pre-algebra, algebra, consumer math and general math.
His wife, Delores of 32 years, is also a teacher in Grand Prairie. He realized he enjoyed helping people which was very important to him, and having a "knack" for numbers decided to teach to help young people. His mathematics background allows him to better serve his students in explaining math concepts to them.
In his spare time he enjoys playing softball with his children, ages 31. 29, 22 and 17. Playing with his 5 grandchildren is also a great priority for him. Cook outs with the family are what he looks forward to.
Fernando is also a member of parish of Saint Michael the Archangel of Grand Prairie,Texas. He is a Knight of Columbus (men's church group) and CRHP Christ Renews His Parish organization and a Eucharistic Minister. This is Fernando's second year to teach at CCHS Academy. We are honored to have him on our staff.

A native Texan from Fort Worth, Mary Nelson entered UTA as a pre-med major. Five years later, with a BS in biology, a minor in chemistry, and enough art credits for a second major, she could be found working in the Medical Art Department at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Folowing her marriage, Mrs. Nelson took her first teaching job, 9th grade physical science, at MacArthur High School in Irving. At the end of that year, she left to test her art talents. Following a number of years in commercial art and advertising, she returned to UTSMC, where she worked on a Master's degree in Biomedical Communications with a Medical Illustration specialty. Her art career includes eleven years as a freelance designer and illustrator.
The decision to return to teaching followed Mary's pursuit of graduate studies in psychology and four years as a residential counselor at a local adolescent facility. Her science classes at the graduate level include gross human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and embrology. As a Masters student, Mrs. Nelson taught life drawing classes to the other students as an elective. While most of her K-12 teaching has been in the Dallas ISD, Mary also spent two years in what she considers a more personable environment at Dallas Can Academy charter high school on Oak Cliff. She is anticipating teaching in a similar atmosphere at CCHS Academy in Duncanville.
